belly laughs | cookeville child photographer

Is there any better sound?

And although I didn’t get a shot of it, I heard a lot of belly laughs from my sister when I showed her my self-portrait attempts. Yes, I tried to photograph myself. I wrote an article about photography for next month’s issue of At Home Tennessee, and needed a bio picture. I’m not kidding, I enlisted my 5-year old to try to shoot me. That didn’t work out so well. So out came the tripod, and self-timer. We finally got one, but it was still enough to make me so thankful I am most often on the other side of the lens!

it’s chalk weather again! | cookeville child photographer

So glad to see the sun again. I pulled out this shot last night from my old files–I am printing some images from a few years ago for my walls… and I just love this shot. And I can’t wait to go outside and draw on the sidewalks again!

I also want to invite any of you moms with girls aged 4-14 to the Cookeville Children’s Museum 3rd annual Mom & Me Spa Night. It’s going to be a fantastically fun night–and I will be there with a super-fun setup taking photos! I will be living vicariously through all you moms of girls… so indulge me! Contact the museum for tickets–space is limited and tickets must be ordered in advance.

the culmination of a busy fall

I’ve worked hard this summer and fall–traveling for magazine assignments, rocking… and photographing… and rocking… and photographing some more sweet babies for private clients, and shooting some pretty sweet commercial jobs. But nothing has compared to the tiny work that was going on inside me the whole time–we finally got to meet the little being that has been my companion on all my shoots, and kiss the little feet that have been keeping a beat for the last several months. Our sweet boy, our Judah, has finally arrived! Meet Jude, all 8 1/2 pounds of him, at four days old:

Photographers : have you ever tried to photograph your own newborn session? I wouldn’t recommend it. I lasted about five minutes before I had to collapse back onto the couch and hope the fifteen shots I was able to get would be decent. I have newfound admiration and respect for all my newborn client mommas!

And a few shots I took a few days before Jude was born–the older brothers:

sweet light, sweet love

One of my greatest pleasures as a photographer is having the opportunity to photograph close friends and family during some of the most special times of their lives. We braved the mosquitoes and the thistle yesterday evening to shoot Mandy and Lance’s engagement session… and it was so worth it! I know I’m biased, but I think they are just the cutest couple! I designed the session around how I picture them–down to earth, a little bit country, but with a classic sense of style and beauty. I’m so excited for them and all the adventures to come–I can’t wait until their wedding this fall!
